En 1805 ingresó a las Milicias de Caballería de Concepción. En 1806, viajó con el General Luis de la Cruz Goyeneche a Buenos Aires, buscando el paso de Bariloche.
Capitán de Dragones en el movimiento revolucionario de 1810-1811; fue tomado prisionero y quedó en libertad debido al Tratado de Lircay 1814; después de la batalla de Rancagua nuevamente es tomado prisionero y encerrado en la Catedral de Concepción; luego fue trasladado a la isla Quiriquina, donde permaneció hasta 1817; fue liberado por la restauración independiente y nombrado Alcalde de Concepción y, posteriormente, Intendente de la Provincia; fue dependiente de aduana y Tesorero y Contador de la Casa de Moneda; Diputado propietario por Coelemu 1834-1837; Diputado propietario por Los Ángeles 1837-1840; integró la Comisión Permanente de Gobierno; Diputado propietario por Chillán 1840-1843, integrando la Comisión Permanente Calificadora de Peticiones; Diputado propietario por Cauquenes 1843-1846.
