This king is the most likely candidate for the historical Shem of the Judeo/Christian Bible.
In the bible 3 brothers, Shem, Ham, and Japheth together with their wives, Father Noah and unnamed mother escape the great flood in a ship (together with two of every living beast) and land on mount Ararat.
Archaeological records of Mesopotamian and Egypt do record a great flood did happen within the lifetime of Pharaoh Semerkhet's father who survived it (The great Suppurak flood).
To date there are several possibilities of identification of the brothers of Semmerkhet (sons of the historical "Noah") But none that can be identified with certainty. It appears that the Judeo-Christian chronicles (compiled in the Bible) may preserve the notion of the family without particular chronological accuracy. Shem, Хам Ноїв Свято-Письмовий (Сини Ноєві, م > -2201), and Japheth (Djepthoth, the priests of Sakkarah and Memphis) are names that represent kings of the 2nd and 3rd dynasties that are related to the survivor of the flood.
